What is Ringette?
Ringette is a fast-paced team sport played on ice with a ring, stick and full protective equipment. A game consists of two 20-minute periods, taking an hour to complete.
Try Ringette for free!
A great way to see if Ringette is the sport for you is to attend a Come Try Ringette event. Check out a date near you at www.cometryringette.com.
What Makes Ringette Unique?
Ringette encourages the rapid development of skating skills, and demands that athletes apply concepts of teamwork and game strategy to succeed, in particular:
What is Ringette4U?
This is a fantastic new 3 stage program for our younger players (ages 3-7). It teaches ringette fundamentals and skating skills by trained instructors. All players at this level will attend an assessment skate and then placed at an appropriate level. There are a total of 3 assessments throughout the season and the children will move through the levels as they progress. The program features a total of 32 ice times, with a minimum of 16 games, dependant on the level of play. See the website www.ringette4u.ca for more details.
My daughter skated in the R4U program last year and we think she is ready to move up, how does this work?
Any players born in 2009 looking to graduate from the R4U program should register at www.ringette4U.ca for the Early Assessment Sessions hosted by the Manitoba Ringette Association.
My daughter isn't a very strong skater, can she play?
Beginners, with the exception of the R4U age group (3-7), should ideally possess basic skating skills before registering for the sport. This means they can concentrate on improving their skating and learning the game not just trying to stay upright!
How are teams formed at the U10 & U12 levels?
In these age groups, assessments are mandatory and will consist of 3 skates in mid to late September 17-24, 2017. Whilst SWRA hosts these sessions, the evaluations are all performed by an independent outside party. The assessment information is then used to assist in team formation.
What about the older age groups? (U14, U16, U19)?
Assessment in these age groups is now mandatory. A-team aspirants will have 3 skates while those not trying out for the A-team will have 1 skate session, happening sometime in mid to late September. Assessments and team formation are otherwise the same as for the U10 & U12 age groups.
Is there anything I can do to get my daughter ready for assessments/the new season?
In preparation for the 2016/2017 season, many players take advantage of the SWS Ringette Skills, Conditioning and Power Skating Camp that commences August 31st and comes to a close on September 15th. See www.southwinnipegsports.ca for details. We strongly suggest power skating lessons to support your daughters growth.

The activity fee for ringette has two components:
1) Registration fee, paid on line at www.srwa.ca.

What Makes Ringette Unique?
Ringette encourages the rapid development of skating skills, and demands that athletes apply concepts of teamwork and game strategy to succeed, in particular:
- Players must pass the ring over the blue line to a teammate every time – promoting the involvement of all players.
- Skill, speed and strategy are what score goals - intentional and aggressive body contact is forbidden.
- Success depends on how well you and your teammates work together as only three players may attack or defend around the net. Less crowding gives the skilled player space and reduces the risk of injury.
- Only the goaltender is allowed in the crease. Featuring a bigger crease, scoring demands real skill.
- At the advanced levels, a team has 30 seconds from the time they gain possession of the ring to take a shot on goal.
